Shalom Family First Initiative Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to making quality mental health care accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances. We provide free and subsidized counselling, psychotherapy, and community wellness programs that support individuals, families, and underserved communities across Saskatoon and surrounding areas.

Founded by a Registered Nurse and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), our organization offers compassionate, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care that promotes healing, strengthens relationships, and builds resilient communities. Through education, outreach, and advocacy, we work to remove barriers to mental health services and ensure every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Because everyone deserves access to hope, healing, and lifelong mental wellness.

Mission

Our vision is to create a society where mental wellness is deemed a fundamental human right. In this envisioned world, access to healing services is equitable, meaning that a family’s financial status does not determine their ability to receive the mental health care they need. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve mental well-being, regardless of their economic circumstances.

Vision

Our mission is to remove financial barriers to mental health care by providing free and subsidized counselling and psychotherapy. Through community-led programs, education, outreach, and partnerships, we strengthen families, promote resilience, heal trauma, and advocate for equitable access to mental health services for all.

Executive Summary & Core Mission

The organization is a specialized non-profit mental health initiative dedicated to bridging the critical gap in accessible, culturally responsive psychotherapy and counselling services within Saskatoon and its surrounding communities.
Founded and led by a Registered Nurse and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), our mission is simple yet profound: to ensure that financial hardship never stands in the way of mental wellness and family stability. We specifically serve uninsured and underinsured families, low-income individuals, and marginalized communities who cannot afford out-of-pocket private practice rates and face prohibitive wait times in the public healthcare system.

The Problem We Solve

While mental health awareness has grown, access to care remains highly inequitable. Many families lack extended health benefits, yet they earn too much to qualify for restrictive provincial subsidies, leaving them stranded in a systemic gap. Currently, 30% of our clinical caseload is seen entirely pro bono or on a sliding scale. The demand in Saskatoon is rapidly outstripping what a private practice can absorb sustainably.
Furthermore, there is a distinct shortage of diverse, culturally safe care. As a Black-owned and woman-led organization, we provide a unique, intersectional approach to therapy that fosters deep trust among diverse and underrepresented populations.

Community Health Promotion & Outreach

We promote proactive community wellness through accessible education and support programs. Our initiatives include webinars and workshops on stress management, trauma, emotional well-being, and mental health awareness, as well as couples and relationship programs that strengthen communication, resilience, and healthy family relationships.
